Promise vs Commitment

Many personal promises are made as a convenience to avert seemingly important tasks. Such promises are often left aside because of intervening matters that are imminent and much easier to fulfil or handle. It is akin to a response like “I’ll try to be there” and because it isn’t a firm commitment, it offers a good excuse and escape route for not turning up because “I’ll try” is very different from “I will”. A person who constantly reminds himself that “I can, I will and I must” is thus committed and often makes him a better and successful person.
